Community Organizer
Project: SAFE Recovery
Location: Sibolga – West Sumatra
The Community Organizer will support the implementation of the SAFE Recovery Program in Sibolga and surrounding by mobilizing communities, facilitating beneficiary engagement, and ensuring inclusive participation in housing recovery activities. The position plays a key role in building trust with communities, supporting transparent beneficiary selection, facilitating communication between Habitat and local stakeholders, and ensuring community participation throughout the implementation of housing repair, retrofitting, and reconstruction activities. The Community Organizer will also help ensure that recovery interventions promote community ownership, accountability, and long-term resilience
Key Responsibilities:
- Community Mobilization and Engagement
- Facilitate community outreach sessions to introduce SAFE Recovery Program objectives and activities.
- Build relationships with community members, including vulnerable households affected by disaster.
- Promote community understanding of housing recovery processes including repair, retrofitting, and reconstruction interventions.
- Support community participation in project activities and encourage local ownership of recovery initiatives.
- Beneficiary Identification and Facilitation
- Support the process of beneficiary identification and validation in collaboration with local leaders and technical teams.
- Facilitate transparent communication of eligibility criteria and program procedures.
- Assist in organizing community meetings and consultations related to housing interventions.
- Ensure the participation of vulnerable groups and marginalized households in program activities.
- Support to Housing Recovery Implementation
- Assist the technical team during household visits and community coordination related to housing repair and reconstruction activities.
- Facilitate communication between home partners and technical staff during implementation.
- Monitor community participation such as sweat equity contributions and community support mechanisms.
- Ensure community members understand construction timelines and responsibilities.
- Community Awareness and Capacity Building
- Facilitate awareness sessions related to safe housing practices, disaster risk awareness, and community resilience.
- Encourage households to adopt safer building practices during repair or reconstruction processes.
- Support training sessions or orientation activities conducted for home partners and community members.
- Monitoring and Field Documentation
- Collect field-level information related to program implementation and community feedback.
- Maintain accurate documentation of beneficiary participation and community activities.
- Support MEAL activities including data collection, beneficiary tracking, and feedback documentation.
- Report implementation challenges, community concerns, and recommendations to the Project
- Coordinator.
- Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement
- Coordinate with community leaders, local institutions, and village authorities.
- Support communication between Habitat and local government representatives when required.
- Participate in community meetings and coordination forums relevant to housing recovery activities. d. Represent Habitat for Humanity Indonesia at the community level when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, Community Development, Rural Development, or related fields.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in community organizing, community development, or humanitarian programs.
- Experience working with vulnerable or disaster-affected communities is an advantage.
- Experience facilitating community meetings and participatory processes.
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with community members and local stakeholders.
- Good organizational and coordination abilities.
- Basic understanding of housing, infrastructure, or community recovery programs is an advantage.
- Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and willingness to work closely with local communities.
