“Share Doughnuts, Build Houses” Launching of “Community Card” Krispy Kreme and Habitat for Humanity Indonesia
Jakarta 28 March 2008: Today, Krispy Kreme and Habitat for Humanity announce the launch of a Community Card – bearing the motto “Share Doughnuts, Build Houses” – that carries with it much care. Caring for the community has always been an important part of Krispy Kreme’s proud tradition. This spirit to contribute to improving the lives of people in the communities it operates in, has inspired Krispy Kreme Indonesia to initiate a joint awareness and fund-raising initiative with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia (HFH Indonesia), a non-profit organization dedicated to building decent and affordable houses for low income families. Through this program, Krispy Kreme and HFH Indonesia are working together to help low income families and families living in disaster-affected areas.
The Community Card is offered to everyone for Rp 50.000,- and 100% is donated to Habitat for Humanity Indonesia to build simple and decent houses. “In Indonesia, more than 37 million people are poor and more than 22 million families don’t have a decent house to call ‘home’. Krispy Kreme is honored to introduce the Community Card with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia to help build houses for families in need. Let’s work hand in hand to support a better living” said Vico Lomar, Assistant General Manager for Krispy Kreme Indonesia. As a token of appreciation to caring Krispy Kreme customers who donate to Habitat, the doughnut maker will give each Community Card holder, the privilege of buying 12 doughnuts for the price of six, valid for 10 purchases in all Krispy Kreme outlets in Jakarta until April 2009.
To mark the launch of this program, Krispy Kreme organizes a special event today. It included testimonies from Habitat Indonesia beneficiaries and a video showing its programs and achievements. To top off this launch, there will be a special appearance by Idang Rashidi, one of Indonesia’s distinguished jazz musicians, performing the program’s theme song which he’s written– and will be sung by a vocal group. “Share Doughnuts, Build Houses” song is to encourage people to work hand in hand to help others in need. Jimmy Masrin, the Chairman of National board of Trustees-Habitat for Humanity Indonesia said, ” On behalf of Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, we wish to express our deepest gratitude to the kind hearted friends of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, who have shown great passion to help others.” It is our hope, that Krispy Kreme friends’ generosity and participation through the Community Card program will enable families in need to build houses!
Habitat Indonesia has often established tie-ups with international schools around Jakarta for its volunteer works. For this particular program, the Jakarta International Korean School students have agreed to lend its support. These students will help to raise public interest in the Community Card as part of its social awareness efforts.
