Yogyakarta 24 February 2007: 390 houses were officially handed over by Habitat for Humanity Indonesia to its home partners in Yogyakarta and Central Java who affected by earthquake in May 2006. The dedication was organized in Dusun Kralas, Bantul district.
The dedication ceremony was attended by some “Friends of Habitat” representatives such as Cargill, Dow Chemical Indonesia, ExxonMobil
Mr. Sukardiono, the first assistant Bantul District Mayor who attended this ceremony was also emphasized the important role of NGOs and donors in the community’s recovery. “Donors and NGOs have kindly helped us to recover, but someday they will leave, so it is us, the community who should build our lives by returning to our natural character; a tough and hard worker.” he said.
After the ceremony was completed, traditional games were held and participated by community members, donor representatives, Habitat for Humanity Indonesia staffs and students from Doshisa University of Japan from Habitats Global Village Program. They were all enthusiastic to be participants of the games.
